Cub Courier!
November 2024
Message from the Principal.
bill
Yesterday was Halloween, and it was so fun to see students dress up as their alter ego, hero, or favorite character. Princesses, superheroes, and cartoon characters abound in our classrooms today! I dressed up as Mr. Rogers for Halloween, and I can count the number of students who are familiar with him on one hand. Most students responded, “Who are you?” with a quizzical look on their faces. Families, your homework this weekend is to introduce your children to Mr. Rogers!!

Daylight Savings Time will help make the mornings a bit lighter, but changing clocks will do nothing to remove the colder, wetter weather that is coming. Please send your student to school with a jacket and shoes that can handle damp outdoor weather. While we have plans for indoor recess on very wet days, it is important for our kids to get outside whenever possible to run around and breathe fresh air. Being dressed for the weather is important for your child’s comfort during wintertime. If you are unable to provide a warm winter jacket or shoes, please reach out to your student’s teacher or the school’s main office, because we have generous community friends who will provide you with clothing for the season.

November is a good month to reflect on things to be thankful for. I am thankful for our amazing school community. Caring staff, curious students, supportive parents, and a generous community all contribute to making Crescent Harbor an amazing school to be principal of. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Bill Weinsheimer
Principal

Be a SUPER Hero at CHE! Please volunteer your time, talents, or super skills. We
would love to generate a list of who we can call on to help make this super school
even more MARVELous.
Please contact Mrs. Franz at ffranz@ohsd.net

If you require holiday help (food or other
items) please get in touch with me soon. We have some generous community partners who would like to assist families in need for the holiday season. However, there are specific deadlines, protocols, and limited resources, so it is important to be proactive.

We also have a community partner who has provided many of our students in need with winter coats. If your child is in need of a winter coat please email me all of the following information:
  • student name, teacher name, size of coat needed and your contact information.
Unless otherwise requested the coat will be sent home with your student once one becomes available.

There are some community counselors who provide services to children and families and have openings. If you are in need of a list of community mental health resources please also email me. If you are experiencing housing insecurity there are additional resources at school and in our community. I am happy to be a resource for our students and their families.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common cause of mild respiratory illness. Since late spring, the number of infections caused by M. pneumoniae has been increasing nationwide, especially among young children. Our community is seeing an uptick in cases in the last few weeks. Please see the following fact sheet regarding M. pneumoniae:

Lost and Found
lf
We still have a huge amount of lost and found.

Next week, during Parent-Teacher Conferences, the front office will place the lost and found items on tables. Please take the time to check for your students' missing items. Anything left by the end of the first trimester (December 4th) will be donated to a local thrift store.
