CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The steel contractors finished during March, and the framing began. The internal steel walls are in place and help to visualize the school's layout and space. Concrete floors have been poured on the upper floor, and the roof is starting to take shape. It's a very busy site with lots of different contractors working simultaneously. This month, they have seen all the PNW weather, and regardless of what the weather throws at them, their progress continues to amaze. A big thank you to all on site working hard to build our new school.

Here's what it looks like on site:

Pouring of the concrete on the second floor.

This photo shows the width of the front section of the school. This does not include the commons, gym, and kitchen areas being built to the right of this picture.

This is the beam that the students signed, and it was placed this last week. So many students wanted to sign it that it was turned over so they could also fill up the other side with their names.

The new school. In this picture, you can see the outline of the steel frame for the whole building.

Preparations are being made so the initial roofing work can start soon.

The last of the gym beams and trusses were installed on Friday March 7.

Work has been completed that requires the large crane so the crane company began disassembly on March 7.

The gym and commons area of the new school. This area of the school will have double height ceilings with some exposed steel beams.

Mrs. Armstrong worked with students and staff to create this piece of Art Work, which was gifted to the steel contractors upon completion. There was a steel top-out ceremony on site to recognized this milestone :)

Mrs. Laura gifting the Art Work to them.

The top of ceremony included pizza and cupcakes. Everybody on site was happy!

Everyone on site got to join in the fun!

Superintendent Michelle Kuss-Cybula walks the construction site.

The Principal's secretary stands in her new office.

The concrete hallways have been poured. They are covered by plywood for protection.

Walking down the corridor of the back part of the lower building. Early march.

One of the best views in the house! Maybe a teacher lottery for classroom allocations? Hehe :)

Not everyone has the nerve to climb the step ladder to explore the 2nd floor. Communications officer Sarah Foy and School Board member Lynn Goebel stayed safely on the ground.

The view from the back hallway on the 2nd floor, this area will be part of the upper hallway and the library.

The 2nd floor looking into the gym and commons.

You can see the scale of the building and the height in the gym and commons area of the new school.

This picture shows the new school kitchen and behind it the maintenance areas will be.

Some of these beams will be visible when completed.

The stage is complete.

The sheathing is started to go on. This high-performance board is used to protect against weather in steel framed construction.

Mr. Weinsheimer's office.

Internal piping on site and ready for installation.

The corridor of the back part of the 1st floor. End of March.

The first staircase. They are not user-friendly, yet!

The most amazing views are from the upstairs classroom. On a good day, I wonder if you might catch a glimpse of Mount. Rainer?

A very windy exploration on the roof.
